"To sit in silence at the shore, watch the waves and hear the surf, is to appreciate the very breath and heartbeat of the Earth."
~ Doe Zantamata
Springtime is the perfect time in Florida to take beach portraits. It's nice and warm with cool breezes coming in off the water. This is right before the summer heat rolls in and being outside becomes a bit unbearable. During the day on the water, most times are fairly comfortable. The bay creates a beautiful fluid backdrop with the occasional seagull passing through.
While we are the "Sunshine State," it's actually better to shoot on overcast or cloudy days to achieve nice even lighting. Although beautiful, clear blue skies allow for harsh hitting light. It's better for the light to delicately fall. For this reason, early morning and evening are prime shooting times.
There are many concepts and themes one can shoot at the beach. The images exhibited below aimed for a soft minimalist look. They were taken at a couple of my favorite Tampa beaches: Honeymoon Island Beach and Treasure Island Beach.
