Here's How You Can Jazz Up Your Holiday Photos

"It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air."

~ W.T. Ellis

I'm sure you have seen the traditional holiday photo. Families are in their favorite holiday outfits (usually color-coordinated), there are fixed props and backgrounds, and the movement is strictly posed. There's nothing wrong with that! In fact, I take a traditional holiday photo every year! But sometimes I want to break outside the ordinary and jazz up my holiday photos.

Last year, my sister and I kind of broke away from the traditional with cute stylized photos that were gifted to our grandparents. This got me thinking. How could I create some unique holiday photos for clients that are out of the box and add a little pazazz?

And to the Pinterest boards, I went!

I scoured my favorite inspirational tool, but never really found quite what I was looking for, although I did find some interesting portraits that I'll be sharing below. This year, I'm excited to try and create a few of my own unique sets. Last year, I started with holiday milk baths and ribbons, and this year, I can't wait to see the end results of fresh ideas.

To get the gears going consider some of the portraits below. You can jazz up your holiday photos in a number of ways! Nothing says the holiday quite like lights, so Christmas lights are a must when breaking the holiday photo mold. Along with bringing nature on the set or meeting it in the wild.

We can always get funky with style, going total glam with fine art styling, crowns, and gowns, or channeling the who's of Whoville. Of course, with this being the time of year things start to cool off and chill, it would be remiss to not think about cozy and comfy shots in sweaters, fuzzy socks, and earmuffs.

Which were your favorite? Do you think you'll try some of them out this year?
