Gaining Clarity to Bloom for Spring

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.”

~ Jonathan Swift.

Hello, Spring! We are now at the beginning of new season! Can you believe it? It feels like the year has still just started. And in a way, that's a good thing because things actually don't start moving and growing until Spring. That's why planning and the seeds of implementation is actually better done in Spring. When the new air of hope and change starts flowing in.

Winter gives us time to rest and review, Spring gets the ball rolling. It is in this time, we can better ask questions about our future year, starting with perhaps the most important one—how will I do better in directing the story of my life?

On the cusp of winter's end and spring's beginning, is a great time to sit down and plan. Shape out how you want the year to look. With everything that is going on in the world, we must refocus on the one thing we can control—ourselves. You are responsible for you. You are a unique individual with dreams, hopes, and aspirations that can leave an impact. Only you can see the path that will lead you to fulfill your purpose. So, the question is, how do we open up that path? Let's look at seven pragmatic ways to bloom this year.

Let go of last year. You won’t be able to move forward until you stop clinging to the past. So, what if you came up short of your goals last year? Don’t carry the late years as weights around your ankles! You have new months ahead this year to still make it happen. The past can damage you in two ways—by either holding you back or causing you to repeat the same thing without having learned from the first time. Don’t let it do that instead, use the past to your advantage to move forward.

Create a vision board or book. Write it down. Those things that you hope to accomplish this year. What you want to see happen. Put pen to paper and write out your vision clearly and specifically. Hold yourself accountable with measurable units and a deadline. You can be flexible but keep your eye on the prize.

See big. What I mean by this is to look beyond what your eyes can see and push your mind to imagine beyond possibility. “Seeing big” can be terrifying due to the thought of it actually occurring and the misunderstanding from those around us. However, “seeing big” should be scary and not everyone will understand—it’s not for them to. You’re an individual entity and because your vision will reflect what’s been placed inside you, only you can fulfill it. And once you have the big picture, you can start breaking it down into easily digestible units to start checking off the list.

Start your days with meditation. It’s important to center yourself at the start of your day. Fill up on all the good things that will keep you tranquil, determined, and vigilant. For some, this may be devotion and others journaling. This way no matter what you may encounter, nothing can negatively affect you. It’s easy to get caught in a pessimistic attitude but being negative never gets anyone anywhere.

Appreciate the “no.” Yes, I said it. Appreciate the “no.” Appreciate the closed door because you are one step closer to being on the path you are meant to be on.

Pursue harmony and balance. It doesn’t only apply to music. This will keep you grounded throughout the year. While we work it is easy to become consumed by the daily grind, our familial needs, and personal desires to the point where everything is out of whack. Focusing on work we leave little time for family. Family requires our constant attention that we forget about ourselves. For things to work properly, you’ll need harmony and balance.

Go after the things you love. Be honest with yourself. Only you know the things that you truly love. Those things that you either won’t admit to publicly for fear of failure, sometimes before even trying. Those things that you obsess over late at night. Those things that you can’t stop sharing and getting hyped over. Go after them!
